Cutie-patootie Cole enjoyed his first day back in school today! This year he is the four-year-old class that is held Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They hosted an open house last Friday for the parents and kids where Cole met some new students and enjoyed seeing friends from last year. (He has the same teachers this year, too, which is nice!) Dave and I both took him to that event and he enjoyed it, but requested that we join him there again today (and stay again) for his official first day. We didn't want any water-works so we decided that Delia should take him instead in the morning and then I went to pick him up at 12:30. (Dave was planning to come but got caught in a meeting.) Both Delia and his teachers said he did GREAT this morning. And when I picked him up he was so surprised and happy to see me - adorable! We had a nice walk home and then had lunch together. So I got to hear all about his first day. Here are the highlights:
Mama: Cole, did you enjoy seeing your friends again?
Cole: Yes, Sebastian was there today. He was shy when I first said hi, but he got better. (I am impressed that he is noticing people's feelings/behavior now.)
Mama: What stories did the teacher read today?
Cole: She read a Dinosaur book first that Zoe brought. But I didn't listen because I was too busy playing.
Mama: Did you get in trouble?
Cole: No, the teachers minded.
Mama: They minded?
Cole: Yes, they knew what I was doing and it was okay.
Mama: Oh, that means they didn't mind.
Cole: But they knew.... (Mama gives up and says "ok, that's good!")
After reading the sheet of paper that tells what they did that day, and, thus, already knowing the answer:
Mama: What was the second book you read?
Cole: Ummm...let me think...
Mama: Was it about manners?
Cole: (with VERY wide eyes) Mama! How did you know that?!
Mama: I know everything sweetheart. (Wink, wink)
Cole: Oh, I saw some of my other friends in the hallway - they are in the class across from mine.
Mama: Oh, who was it? Donald and Calen?
Cole: No - Seshi. You know, the one who spreads his germs on everyone.
Mama: Oh, then I'm glad he's not in your class this year! (WHAT?! How?! I don't even want to know...)
Cole: I looked all around but I didn't see Natasha. (Our neighbor)
Mama: Oh, that's because she started Kindergarten this year so she is at a different school.
Cole: (Looks thoughtful) I see....(I just love when he seems so mature and utters phrases I don't expect to come out of his mouth!)
Mama: So you read and you played with the blue train and -
Cole: (Cutting me off) And we did projects!
Mama: Oh, what projects did you do?
Cole: We "drawed" pictures of ourselves! But then I got up from the table and Mrs. Dimond told me I wasn't done yet. Because I hadn't put the letter "M" on my picture.
Mama: What does the letter "M" stand for?
Cole: I don't know.
Mama: Well it says here on your paper you learned two letters today - "M" and "E" - if you put those together what does it spell?
Cole: (Big smile) ME!
Mama: That's right! So maybe you were supposed to put "M" and "E" on your paper so everyone knows it's you.
Cole: Oh, that's right!
Then we open his backpack to see what else is in there and there is a brown bag -
Cole: Look mama - it's a goodie bag! (He unfolds it and points) And look - it has my name on it!!
Mama: Very good - let's see what's in there.
Cole: Yumm - look - a lollipop for me...and another one for Kira! (My heart just swells when he wants to share with his sister!)
When we go inside to have lunch he shows Delia the two lollipops and says "Look, Delia, my teacher put a lollipop for Kira in my bag, too!"
Too cute!!!!
