Sammy and Kira after bathtime

Yesterday afternoon Mama came home from work a little early because Nana, Grandpa, Aunt Michelle, Sammy, Leah and Brady all came to play (yes, a random Tuesday) and after bath time Kira helped style Sammy's hair.  Too cute!

Kira's first haircut

Kira got her very first haircut yesterday, trimming just a bit off the curly ends. She was squirmy at first but settled in once she had a sucker in her mouth. Big brother is behind her getting his hair cut too.

Our yearly visit to the fall festival at Butler's Orchard. While we at lunch the band started playing and the kids were diggin' it!

Cole's first field trip

Cole's first field trip!  We went to "Potomac Vegetable Garden" where we took a hay ride to the "fields" (I use the term loosely b/c this place is SMALL), ate broccoli out of the ground (I was so proud of Cole for tying it!), went into two ifferent Green Houses (when we got into the second one Cole immediately asked the farmer where the exit was - my little emergency planner) and then saw some animals - two piglets and a chicken that literally laid an egg in front of us!  Pretty exciting stuff!

On our way!  Making use of that third row in the Highlander!

The three of them are so cute and funny together!

Warms my heart...

I can't believe it's been almost a month since I've posted - so many times I've thought "oh, I need to write this down" but this past month has been SO busy!  More on that later...for now, I just wanted to record two things that happened yesterday that just brought a huge grin to my face.

First, Cole and Kira were running around yesterday afternoon/evening with all of the neighborhood kids (we call them the neighborhood posse!) and as they were running up the hill Cole fell to his knees.  He got right back up and continued running with the rest of them, but Kira was behind him and saw it and yelled, "Cole, are you ok?  Are you ok, Cole?"  OMG - too cute.   I LOVE that she was so concerned for her big brother.  That is precious!

Then later in the evening I was bathing the kids (usually Dave's job, but he was teaching last night) and I told Kira to stand up so I could soap her up.  Well, that girl can ignore others like you've never seen before.  If she doesn't feel like doing something, she doesn't do it.  So my voice was getting louder and louder as I tried to get her to listen to me and Cole says, "Mama!  Don't yell at Kira - she's still a baby.  She doesn't understand everything you tell her."  Again, I LOVE the concern for his little sister.  So heartwarming!  However, he was wrong and I told him so - I said, "Kira is not a baby anymore and she knows perfectly well that she has to stand up so I can finish washing her."  To which the little imp (Kira) grinned and jumped up.  Sigh...

I'm so glad that they have each other and look out for each other...I will do my best to foster this relationship so it continues through high school - when I'll really need to worry about their welfare!!!  Yikes!
