Good Friday

It's Good Friday...and another rainy day.  Dave and I took the day off of work for a family-focused Easter weekend.  We had planned to take the kids to Butler's Orchard for the bunny festivities today, but due to the rain we had a change of plans.  This morning, instead, we took them to the Museum of Natural History and they LOVED it!  Of course, Cole knew the animals better than I did.  (Reminiscent of when we took our nephew, Jack, there about four years ago.)  After nap we're headed to Monkey Business - an indoor play area like Gymboree where the kids can run wild - with our neighbors, Christi and Joel and their sons, Jake and Chase (pictured in many of the outdoor fun photos we post).  Tomorrow, if it stops raining, we're headed to the Falls Church Easter Egg Hunt - again with our neighbors.  Last year I stayed home with Kira b/c she was too small and Dave took Cole.  Unfortunately, it starts at 10:00 and they arrived at 10:03 and all the eggs were already gone!!!  Apparently this event attracts a huge crowd.  So we're planning to arrive no later than 9:30 tomorrow morning.  Fun, fun, fun!  And then, of course, we have a houseful on Sunday for Easter.  We are hoping it doesn't rain (as predicted) because we have an Easter egg hunt planned in our backyard and the guest list includes Nana, Grandpa, Uncle Nick, Angie, Aunt Michelle, Uncle Jason, Cousins Sammy, Brady, and Leah, Aunt Leslie, Uncle Alex, Evan and Christine.  A houseful!  So, crossing our fingers for surprise sunshine :-)

Cole & Kira - Constantly Entertaining Us

So, yesterday at the Circus Kira grabs some popcorn and holds it up to Cole's mouth.  When he leans over to take a bite she grabs it back away from him and starts giggling hysterically.  Where did she learn this?!  So Cole, luckily, also finds it hysterical and they do it about a gazillion more times.  Then this morning I hear Cole tell Delia a story when she arrives - he says, "Daddy told me that there were going to be doggies at the circus but we didn't see any.  I think he was just faking me out."  ????? Where did he hear the term "faking me out"???  These kids are like sponges - watching and listening to everything we do and then surprising us with their new knowledge!  Too funny!

Rainy day

Despite the yucky rain the family enjoyed the day thanks to a visit to the air and space museum. Kira kept saying "whoa" and "wow" as she ran up to the giant planes and helicopters and Cole followed in his dad's footsteps with his space shuttle interest. (Dave went to space camp as a kid.) Cole was very interested in the space suits and insisted on getting a space shuttle toy to bring home. We all had a great day!

Little Bo Peep and Jesus

This is what Cole learned today at preschool.

"Jesus died on a cross.  Then we made crosses out of paper and I was afraid I would die on a cross."  YIKES!
Then...

"When Jesus died, Little Bo Peep washed his body and put him in a cave.  Then Little Bo Peep put a sheet over him and covered the cave with a rock.  The sheet is how he was alive again."

How exactly do we set the record straight!?  :-)

Reason #101 Why Cole Can't Sleep

Cole has made it a habit lately of coming down after we put him to bed and telling us why he can't sleep.  Last night it was he forgot his dragon animal; the night before it was that he needed some water; the night before that was "I close my eyes but I can't see any stories behind my eyes"  - but tonight takes the cake.  He just came downstairs and said, "I can't sleep because when I turn my head the other way on the pillow it's stinky."  LOL!  I said, "maybe we need to change your pillow case then."  No...he said.  "Well, maybe you have a stinky stuffed animal we need to get out of your bed."   No, that's not it.  Dave went upstairs with him and swapped out his pillow for a new one...we'll see how long til he comes back downstairs.  How does he think these excuses up?!?

Typical weekend morning these days

Now that the weather is getting slightly warmer, this is what a weekend morning looks like! Weekday evenings are even more full of biking adventures.

Safety first, just a few weeks late

We finally got both kids some cool new biking helmets since Cole is now riding a true "balance bike" and Kira is trying to do everything he and the neighbor kids do. Not sure if it's a law in VA like it is for Jack in CA, but given the couple of spills each of them has taken, we figured it best. Here they are in their spanking new helmets! Cole's has sharks on it and Kira's is a pink/white/yellow flower combo.
